Leg 4

Be sure to see our overview of Leg 4.

We enjoy winter in Alaska. We enjoy sports and friends, as well as the traditional holiday season. We returned to Mexico in very late February, 2012, acclimatizing for a week in our time share in Cabo San Lucas. On arrival in La Paz, we removed Wings' winter cover and completed work that could only be done while she was out of the water: replace zincs, grease sea cocks, and check all of her running gear. We splashed her on March 8, and returned to our resort. With the vacation at an end, we returned to the boat, staying for a week at Marina Palmira, located a few hundred yards away. There was work to be done: recommissioning the boat, attaching sails, routine maintenance, and much more. We had two Kyocera solar panels to install and wire. After we completed our work, we headed north to cruise in the Sea of Cortez, stopping to fish, snorkel, and enjoy the spectacular Baja shoreline. My sister and her husband joined us for a week of sailing and sun, then Conni's old law school roommate, her husband, and daughter joined us for a week of fishing, and cruising.

We continued on northward after our guests departed, reaching as far north as Santa Rosalia. We cruised across the Sea of Cortez and entered San Carlos, where we left Wings for the hot Mexican summer.
