To break our long trip back West toward Raiatea, we decided to stop over in Fare, Huahine. The pass is large, well-maarked, and we had negotiated it once before. The next day's short trip of 25 nm after a good night's rest seems a good idea. Shoot, we coud see Raiatea in the distance! If we hadn't lived through similar issues, we would not have been so responsive, perhaps. In addition, we've been helped so many times. A fellow cruiser's outboard had stalled as the family group returned from shore to their boat, and Bill jumped into the dinghy and motored to help. The man (of course it was a man...) replied, "No thanks, I know this engine!" Well, OK! He did finally get it going and Conni caught Bil returning from the mooring field. With Raiatea in the background, this is the calm field of sailboats anchored near us. Sailing under double reefed main but full jib, we race toward Raiatea, visible just under the jib. Raiatea, our day's target, is 25 miles away, beyond the nearby reef. You can see the line of calm water ending and rough water beginning. Close to Raiatea, it's easy to see the remaining volcanic features.
