Appleton Bay

From our lovely dock in Tenakee Springs to the nearest good anchorage in Peril Strait was a long 45 mile day. At five knots, that's nine hours, so we arose early and prepared for a long day. We got wind and the mysterious tides of the Southeast were predominantly in our direction, so we had early cocktails in Appleton Bay! Our guidebooks extolled the beauty of Appleton and we think that they were correct.

Lovely. It was a complicated entry into the cove, dodging rocks and shallows, but worth the effort. It was more like a lake than a saltwater cove. I have rarely seen the reflection of clouds.

Conni decided that an early evening merited grilled chicken, so Bill complied. At this time of year, when the sun goes down, it gets cold.
