Leg 9

During Leg 9, we plan to simply enjoy the islands and people of French Polynesia. We've been in a hurry to do everything so far, and we'll not be required to do so this time. This will be our very first open cruising season in the South Pacific and we can't wait.

We've been disappointed in the work that we've had done, when it got done at all, but we have no known outstanding tasks to complete this time: no sonar or toilets to install.

We'll transport our several blue boxes to Papeete, then on to Raiatea and begin work on commissioning Wings. Once again, we'll stay the first week in the Pension Tiare Nui, our primitive but comfortable B&B. The package includes a vehicle, so we're set for that week.

We're just not sure where we'll go, but it'll be in French Polynesia the entire season. Since there are so few flights from Papeete to Los Angeles, we've been forced to return on 17 July.

Addendum: We didn't think that we had any major work, but fate decreed otherwise. On a simple day sail from Moorea back to Papeete to join the Moorea Sailing Rally, our engine quit and the work to get it operational again required three weeks and a lot of money. Damn! That's cruising! We simply exhausted the time we had planned to do more cruising as we sat at Marina de Papeete for three weeks, and Conni had to fly home from there. Bill single-handed Wings back to Raiatea, had her lifted onto her storage cradle, and de-commissioned the boat. You can be assured that he missed having Conni!
